Kevin Cookson died at age 35 from complications of Marfan Syndrome.

Kevin wanted everyone to know about Marfan Syndrome. More than anything else he wanted to make sure that others didn't have to suffer as he had. He loved to tell people his story in hopes of educating others.

About Marfan Syndrome

One in 5,000 people in the United States suffer from Marfan Syndrome, a connective tissue disorder that attacks the body's most crucial systems. Though Marfan often runs in families, it can also occur in people with no family history of the disease.

Marfan Syndrome's most insidious effects occur in the heart and the circulatory system. These effects include increased risk for enlargement of the aorta and aortic dissections, the conditions that account for most Marfan-related deaths. Because Marfan Syndrome affects connective tissue, however, it also attacks many of the body's other crucial systems, including the lungs, the nervous system, the skin, the eyes, and the skeleton.

The National Marfan Foundation works to educate both the public and health care providers about the proper diagnosis and treatment of Marfans
